Anyone Remember This Guy? Were You Listening?

Here are some quotes from the guy you voted for, long before you voted, and not some obscure quotes ... MAJOR policy positions. Frankly, I keep wondering if a lot of our society is deaf and dumb. The crass, fact-bending, interactive political reality show the media is peddling seems to be having some kind of strange effect on how things travel from the ears to the brain:

“But the point is we're going to have to capture some revenue in order to stabilize the Social Security system. You can't get something for nothing. And if we care about Social Security, which I do, and if we are firm in our commitment to make sure that it's going to be there for the next generation, and not just for our generation, then we have an obligation to figure out how to stabilize the system. And I think we should be honest in presenting our ideas in terms of how we're going to do that and not just say that we're going to form a commission and try to solve the problem some other way.” Barack Obama 4/16/08 - Obama/Clinton Debate

There's a difference between REFORMING Social Security and Medicare to make them solvent, and destroying them. A big difference.

“As president, as president, I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power. I'll help our auto companies re-tool, so that the fuel-efficient cars of the future are built right here in America.” Barack Obama 8/28/08, Democratic Nomination Acceptance Speech

"When John McCain said we could just muddle through in Afghanistan, I argued for more resources and more troops to finish the fight against the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11, and made clear that we must take out Osama bin Laden and his lieutenants if we have them in our sights." Barack Obama 8/28/08, Democratic Nomination Acceptance Speech

“As commander-in-chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm's way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home. I will end this war in Iraq responsibly and finish the fight against Al Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts, but I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression.” Barack Obama 8/28/08, Democratic Nomination Acceptance Speech

“Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions, who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short, for they have forgotten what this country has already done, what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose and necessity to courage.” Barack Obama 01/20/09 Inaugural Address

Well, that made me cry again. It's been a long time since I've heard it. I am still a believer. I knew it wouldn't happen magically or easily or all at once, and I knew it was going to take US fighting together to make the changes we wanted. One man cannot change a nation, but its people can, if we continue to fight and work and not give up when everything doesn't go our way.

The problem with "progressives" is they WEREN'T PAYING ATTENTION during the election. They were so proud of themselves for getting the black guy elected, they forgot to pay attention to what the guy's agenda was.

Most of them actually don't have ANY idea what his position on the wars were, unbelievably:

I really can't bitch when someone I voted for is doing so much of what he promised:

Yes, Pres. Obama did run on making big changes, but WE have to be part of that, not just disgruntled spectators, and even we on the left cannot do it alone. Some people seem to be confused about how divided government works. Pres. Obama does not and cannot control Congress, WE DO, when we decide who to elect.

Pres. Obama did run as someone who would reach across the aisle, NOT on rabid partisanship.

“I don't think the Democrats have a monopoly on good ideas. I think that there are a lot of thoughtful Republicans out there.” Barack Obama 4/16/08 - Obama/Clinton Debate

“The problem is, we've been locked in a divided politics for so long that we've stopped listening to each other. And I think that this president, in particular, has fed those divisions. That's something that we've tried to end in this campaign. And I think we're being successful.” Barack Obama 4/16/08 - Obama/Clinton Debate

“I was making was a bet on the American people, that they were tired of a politics that was about tearing each other down, but wanted a politics that was about lifting the country up, that they didn't want spin and P.R. out of their elected officials. They wanted an honest conversation.” Barack Obama 4/16/08 - Obama/Clinton Debate

Again, this is who you voted for. Do I agree with him on everything, no, but I knew that going in, and I don't agree with anyone on everything. This is a big diverse country, and you are never going to find anyone, who is electable, who agrees with you on everything, but you vote for the one who most represents your ideology. It's called democracy.
